After earning a BFA from the University of Colorado, Gary entered the music industry as a drummer for a handful of (struggling) Los Angeles rock bands. Gary decided to cross-over to the business side and was hired by Elektra Records as the labels West Coast promotion manager. This led to VP/Rock & Alternative Music Promotion & Marketing stints at MCA, Atlantic, Capitol and finally his last label stop at Geffen Records in 2003. After 16 years climbing up the record label ladder, in 2006, Gary launched Right Arm Entertainment with two partners which, in 2013, evolved to his own talent buying company now known as Rockhouse Presents under the DWP umbrella.
Gary is in daily contact with the top artist managers, music agents, label heads, national & regional convert promoters as well as key rock&alternative radio programmers across North America.
Gary has not one but two published books to his credit. In 2004, MTV Books put out “Coldplay. Look At The Stars” a riveting story of how Coldplay conquered America as told from Gary’s POV during his tenure as a VP at Capitol Records. And Gary wrote the forward and conclusion to “Rock On The Range…Where Rock Lives” a coffee table book celebrating the 5th anniversary of America’s #1 rock festival, Rock On The Range.
Gary served as lead producer for “Long Live Rock…celebrate the chaos”, a rock documentary currently streaming on both Prime Video & Apple TV. This deep dive into the beloved but often misunderstood genre of hard rock was filmed over 3+ years at various festivals that Gary produced and features A-level rock bands as Metallica, Guns ‘N Roses, Tom Morello, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains, Rob Zombie, Stone Temple Pilots, Greta Van Fleet and many more.
Over his career, Gary has guest lectured at Cal State Northridge (served as an adjunct prof), University of Colorado, The Musicians Institute and has participated in numerous amounts of seminars, and convention panels spreading and sharing his vast knowledge and wisdom to audiences all across the country. Gary is currently a board member on both ROCK AGAINST RACISM and THE CONTINUANCE PROJECT
