Santa Barbara, CA-based singer-songwriter Nicole Sophia’s lyrically driven brand of indie pop/rock radiates joy, bad-assery, and vulnerability. Inspired by artists like Hozier, Sara Bareilles, Maggie Rogers, and Florence + The Machine, Despite not hailing from a musical family, Nicole Sophia gravitated to songwriting at a very young age. An intuitive child with a curious, impassioned heart and an overactive mind, “the girl of a thousand questions” turned to music and songwriting to make sense of the beautiful messiness of being human.
After years of playing live and gaining loyal fans in the process, Nicole Sophia is thrilled to be releasing her debut record “Reveal Your Heart” in 2023, releasing multiple singles in anticipation of the full record. Nicole Sophia is ambitiously looking forward to touring nationally and internationally, playing everywhere from her fans’ favorite dives to Red Rocks, Madison Square Garden and beyond. High on her list of goals is headlining her hometown venue of the Santa Barbara Bowl.
Reveal Your Heart - Artist Notes
I started writing Reveal Your Heart during the transition from early adolescence to young adulthood. I was navigating difficult and unfamiliar situations, and I found meaning and clarity in expressing the nitty gritty through writing. For me, songwriting has always been a sanctuary where I can honestly confront and delve into the intricate corners of my experiences.
This debut EP dives into numerous themes that have shaped my life so far. It explores my relationship with mental health, the complexities of sex, the intricacies of dating and hookup culture, my own family dynamics, and the exploration of my own sexuality and identity. It also digs into the desire to experience love and the raw emotions I encountered when I finally did, and these were the profound experiences that influenced the creation of my songs. Throughout my exploration, I continuously asked the question, ‘What does it truly mean to embrace my authentic self, and how can I fully express that while still in the process of discovering who I am?’ These songs are a testament to my very personal process and represent my genuine attempts at unraveling these questions.
The order of these songs isn’t random; while each song tells its own story, the order is very deliberate for the purpose of telling a bigger story from beginning to end, and keen listeners will hear how one song logically leads to the next in order to serve the overall theme.
I hope that by sharing Reveal Your Heart, listeners can relate to my experiences, find comfort in knowing they're not alone, and perhaps even discover their own truths along the way.
