Ramon Hervey II has been a resilient leader in the entertainment industry over the past four decades while helming his own imprint Hervey & Company, one the most respected boutique entertainment management and brand consultant companies in the business.
This summer Hervey debuts as an author with THE FAME GAME, An Insider’s Playbook for Earning Your 15 Minutes, scheduled for release by Harper/Collins/Amistad on August 16th. Throughout his career, Hervey has mined, molded, and managed, mopped up messes, and mounted major comebacks as a publicist and manager. The Fame Game is his uncensored, behind-the-scenes look at the rich and famous as they are rarely seen.
He shares the hilarious, the absurd, the disappointing, and the surprising as he recalls how he became a trusted confidant to a Who’s Who in music, comedy, film to A-listers including Richard Pryor, Bette Midler, Quincy Jones, Don Cornelius, the Bee Gees, Andrae Crouch, Vanessa Williams, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Luther Vandross, Rick James, Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton, Andrae Crouch, Nick Nolte, James Caan, and Muhammad Ali.
Hervey launched his musical career in London, England working as a writer/publicist for noted talent agents, Starlite Artistes, (Bay City Rollers, Marmalade, Kenny, Mac & Katie Kissoon). Upon returning to the states, he filled the same role for Motown Records. While there, he collaborated on publicity campaigns for the label’s top artists, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, the Commodores, the Temptations, and Jackson 5.
Following his stint with Motown, he joined the iconic PR firm Rogers & Cowan and worked his way up from being a writer/publicist to director of music, and vice president of music and talent. During his tenure at the company his high-profile client list included Paul McCartney, Richard Pryor, Bette Midler, Herb Alpert, Natalie Cole, Ashford & Simpson, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr, Nick Nolte, George Benson, The Bee Gees, and Peter Frampton, among others.
Upon exiting Rogers & Cowan, Hervey launched his own public relations company, The Group, with partner Bob Gibson. The company represented a bevy of prominent music artists including Little Richard, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Mick Fleetwood, Rick James, Bette Midler, Natalie Cole, Rufus, Don Cornelius/Soul Train, and gospel legend Andrae Crouch.
Hervey eventually left and launched his own public relations company, and later morphed it into a management firm. As a publicist, manager, and management consultant his client roster has included Little Richard, Andrae Crouch, Vanessa Williams, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Al Jarreau, Natalie Cole, Joe Sample, David Sanborn, Kenny Lattimore,
Hervey has also produced major music events/projects, (NBA AT 50 Anniversary album, R & B Live, live performance concept ) music specials for television (Andrae Crouch, Babyface) and award-winning documentary films. In 2004, he executive produced "Chisholm ’72- Unbought & Unbossed” which won a Peabody Award. He later served as music supervisor on “Free Angela, And All Political Prisoners,”(winner of the NAACP Image Award for Best Documentary), and "Hot Flash Havoc" (winner of the AASECT Award for 'Best Audio Visual for Sexual Health').
